Surgery being scheduled

Jeff and I met with the pediatric neurologist yesterday. We really like him and found that he is one of the best. Although he specializes in children, he also treats some adults (he helped with Christopher Reeves' case at one point).

Brandon needs surgery to correct the bone growth in his skull. The less invasive procedure needs to be done sooner rather than later, so we are in the process of scheduling the surgery for the end of September. The diagnosis is "craniosynotosis" and Brandon has the second most common form, affecting approximately 1 in 7,000. Craniosynotosis is when the fontanelles grow together prematurely.

The procedure should take about an hour. Recovery is, of course, longer. He will be in ICU for 1 to 2 days and a total hospital stay of 3 to 5 days. Once the incision heals, he will have to have a follow up at a later date to ensure that his skull is growing normally. Basically, once the surgery/healing is done, it's over. We are so thankful that it can be corrected so easily.

Please continue to pray with us for Brandon, his doctor and staff, and quick healing. THANKS!!

Wow. Surgery stinks, but I'm glad that it is something "easily" fixed. We will sure be praying for him to do well during and after surgery, and for you and Jeff through this ordeal. Miss you guys!

Oh, man. I'm grateful that Brandon has such a great surgeon and that once the surgery is done that should be it. We'll continue to pray. Thank you so much for keeping us posted.

That is the same thing my friend's daughter had that I was telling you about (just a different type). It was successful for her. It's in God's hands. I'll keep praying.

Hi Jenny, I just wanted to let you know you and your family are in my prayers. Anna was about that old when she had her surgery, and God was the only one who kept me strong for her.

Hi Jenny! I just found your blog (through Pam's). I am so sorry about Brandon. We will definitely be praying for him.

On another note- I miss you at the Y. Jenny L. left to go to a different one. I got off track abit this past spring/summer, but now I'm back and running again. Hope you guys are doing well!
