First chemo is in & working!!!

My first chemo treatment is done!!! I had no reactions to the medications and all went well. We were there from 11:30 am to 3 pm. I receive two different drugs, one is Herceptin and the other is Docetaxel (aka Texotere). The first dose of Herceptin took 90 min and the Docetaxel took one hour. The other time spent was drawing of blood and waiting for labs before they could begin. This will happen each visit to make sure my blood counts are in the proper range. I also get some other drugs between the two, but I don't have their names.

Next week I only get the Docetaxel, so my visit will be much shorter. The third week I get both again, but my Herceptin dose will only be one hour from now on.

I'm still feeling great and have had no nausea at this point (I am taking the medications they gave me like clockwork to ward it off if it does start). I'm starting to feel a bit tired this morning, but I've probably been doing too much. My shoulder is finally not stiff from the port installation last Friday, and I've felt like holding Brandon and playing with him along with "team cleaning" a bit with my mom. I'm resting now in my room.

Gunner has a playdate with one of his school buddies today, so that will help me and mom to have some relaxation time as well. Brandon's been taking about a 3 hr nap midday. Jeff's back to work, so hopefully we'll get back to some sort of schedule soon.

I'm so thankful that mom is here to help. She doesn't think she's doing much, but she really, really is. I'm so thankful for our church family, neighbors and friends who are helping with the childcare as well.

I think someone may have emailed or written this scripture to me recently, or maybe I just happened upon it myself. When we were in Montana and Oklahoma, we had a song about this as well, I don't remember exactly how it goes because it's been so long since I've heard it. But, I will leave the verses for your thoughts today:

Lamentations 3:22-26 (NIV)
"Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul,
'Therefore I hope in Him.'
The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him.
It is good that one should hope and wait quietly
For the salvation of the Lord."

You are SO GOOD about keeping us posted on how you are doing. THANK YOU!

It sounds like a long process yesterday, but it also sounds like it couldn't have gone better...

I thought and prayed for you all day yesterday, as I know MANY, MANY others did.

Thank you for you and thanks to your mom too, for being there and doing a LOT even if she doesn't feel like she is.

Glad to hear that the first treatment went okay. At least you know what to expect for the future ones too. There's nothing like having Mom around when you need her most. I know she enjoys seeing the boys too. Take care and you're in my prayers. You are on the hospital's prayer list here at work too.

Yeah! No throwing up! I'm so glad it went well for you. We are thinking about you constantly. Thanks for keeping us updated. Tell your mom she is being prayed for along with your family. It's so wonderful she is able to be there to help you. And I started singing that song right away, I wish I could sing it for you. Just know I'll be singing it alot and thinking of you!
